About The Author, Helen

helenbook Helen’s passion for writing began whilst studying law at Cambridge University and Sweet Mandarin is her debut book. Incredibly, by writing this poignant memoir, Helen has become the first ever British born Chinese author – a staggering fact considering it is the 21st Century. Her contribution to literature was recognised when schools in the UK, USA and Asia used her book as part of their curriculums and Staffordshire University bestowed an honorary doctorate to her in 2008. Her book has been singled out by Barnes and Noble on their ‘Great New Writers’ List’ and was a finalist of the Portico Prize.

Helen works extensively with schools encouraging students to write and acts as the bridge connecting budding writers to the publishing world.

Sweet Mandarin is published by Random House and is distributed to 33 countries. BBC Books distribute the audio book (also available to download on ITunes) and True Heart Theatre is adapting the book to a full theatre production which will tour the UK in 2010/11.
