Life Nov 2004 Review by Jonathan Schofield
Sweet Mandarin's service throughout was exceptional: warm,
knowledgeable and committed. The hands down winners in our
selection were the delightful and floaty wantons without a trace of
cloying heaviness - quite the finest ribs (perfect for the kids)
we've had in yonks as well as the claypot and the sizzling beef.
The big earthenware pot, in which the first of these two came, was
enticing in itself, whilst the mix of the chicken, spiced by the
Chinese lapcheung sausage, ginger and so on was delicious. The
sizzling beef was top quality too - chunky, with the flavours seared
in at the table on the hot place. This is a good value place with
worthy food, the looks and splendid service.
Asian
Times Nov 2004
Sweet Mandarin is the most innovative eatery. There is much more to
these Asian Babes who are running the show than pretty faces. Lisa,
Helen and Janet Tse (three twenty something sisters) have an ability
to cook the freshest tasting Chinese cuisine and give it a trendy
twist.

Nov 2004 Review by Emma Sturgess
Sweet Mandarin is likely to be a lifesaver for city-dwelling types.
Manchurian fillet of beef was an example of how this kind of dish
should be cooked, with juicy, tender and tasty meat that raised a
theatrical sizzle as it hit the hotplate. Mabel's claypot boasted a
more complicated palette of flavours with ginger, lemon grass, silky
mushrooms and spring onions lending to their scents to chicken
pieces that were tender. Sweet Mandarin is a welcome arrival on the
restaurant scene.
Restaurant Business Dec 2004
Sweet Mandarin is run by three Chinese Angels. Committed to the
dream of running their own business, three savvy sisters in their
twenties are embarking on a challenging restaurant enterprise. Sweet
Mandarin serves Lilly Kwok's curry (the sisters' grandmother). This
is a secret family recipe going back over forty years and is
renowned for attracting customers as far a field as Ireland,
Scotland and even Spain. Another first for Sweet Mandarin is a
drink with a real bite. The restaurant is the only one in the UK to
offer Snake Blood cocktails which is incidently an aphrodisiac.
Cool, cutting edge and stylish. The design of Sweet Mandarin
reflects the attitude and outlook of its youthful owners to make the
restaurant the trendiest eating venue in town.
Caterer & Hotelkeeper Oct 2004
Sweet Mandarin is a stylish new Chinese restaurant. Pan-Asian in
general, the restaurant attains harmony of taste, texture, colour
and aroma by balancing the Chinese principles of fan and t'sai.

Bar Hotel & Restaurant Nov 2004
Sweet Mandarin is the brain child of the Tse sisters. They follow in
their parents and grandmother, Lilly Kwok's shoes and set the very
best standards. Lisa was preparing banquets at the age of eleven.
